Skinny Something

Skinny Something

Why is it called a ‘SKINNY’? Well, as its name implies, a skinny margarita is a lower-calorie version of a regular margarita.  Instead of syrupy sweet margarita mixes, the skinny margarita keeps it simple: tequila, fresh lime juice and a flavored liqueur. You won’t get much in the way of nutrition from this drink, but you will save a few calories.

Since I didn’t buy my mix and made it from “scratch” I’m calling this the ‘Skinny Something’… and you’re welcome!

Ingredients:

  • 12 Mint Leaves
  • 1 tbsp. Coconut Sugar
  • 1 Lime, juiced
  • 1 Grapefruit, juiced (ps. I don’t like grapefruit and don’t normally eat it but a friend dropped one off with our lemons and I just wanted to use it – no offense to the grapefruit)
  • 1/3 cup Champagne
  • 3 oz Tito’s Vodka
  • Ice ccubes

Pour it all in a shaker, shake shake shake and then into a glass 😉 – garnish and make it pretty – Cuz that’s half the fun!

(You could [also in some cases] use a blender ball ‘shaker’ – like at my friend Heathers house – She doesn’t own a shaker – AND she’s a Mom of two >> Heather, you crazy girl!)

Enjoy!

Protein + Berries

Protein + Berries

When you’re a Mom your entire life revolves around doing things for other people. It’s a crazy shift when you can’t nap, shower, or poop without an interruption of some sort. The dishes, the laundry, the cleaning, the planning, the cooking, and the school lunches… should I got on?

You know those times when you go to make a snack and your baby starts crying?

How about when you find yourself standing over the trash can because your toddler took one bite of their toast and then threw the rest on the ground and you really were hungry and didn’t want it to go to waste so you scramble with the five second rule in mind. You find yourself taking a few bites before they demand that they throw it away or give it back because it’s there’s. Regular meals are too few and far between.

You make a meal and clean up before you can even sit down because it’s on to the next…

We’ll not only is all of the above true, but it’s really unhealthy. Lucky for you, I found a solution. Arbonne Protein powder.

Cold Brew

Cold Brew

Well Cold brew uses time, rather than heat to extract the coffee’s oils, sugars, and caffeine. Iced coffee is created like any regular hot coffee brew method. It’s simply hot coffee that has been cooled down so that it can be poured over ice.

There is a difference.

Intro Chameleon Cold Brew. Their beans are sources consciously, grown sustainably, and often times planted in shade to eliminate the need for chemical pesticides, and nurtured carefully, striving to use the very best practices for water conservation and waste reduction. Chameleon uses an air roasting method. Air-roasting machines use heated air currents that constantly more to gently coax maximum flavor out of the beans.

So this obsession of Chameleon only started a few weeks ago. Let’s face it, Starbucks is getting pretty pricey! So this alternative over ice, with a little coconut milk is like an afternoon heavenly pick me up. One of my clients adds Arbonne Protein Powder to her Chameleon Cold brew in the morning, a friend of mine adds coconut sugar, and most people drink it black.

This amazing cold brew also comes in little to-go size bottles that you can grad before walking out of the door. It’s awesome.

As a mom, coffee becomes a huge part of the day. It’s not just because of the caffeine, it’s that small moment of “peace and quiet” and self-reflection that you get before your little one wakes up and let’s face it, all hell breaks loose.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C

Well, I went home sick and basically didn’t eat for an entire day. I just slept. This is an interesting feeling might I add. After being in retail for over 10 years I wasn’t used to someone saying ‘Oh wow, you’re sick? Why don’t you go home?!’ The concept of leaving work, calling out sick from work, or taking a vacation from work wasn’t a real thing until my new position.

Bye bye retail, hello corporate sick days because I was really sick!

As for boosting my body back into ‘happy’ I mixed a yummy tropical shake before I rushed out the door this morning.

Oranges are well known for their source of vitamin C. This is one of the best reasons to choose the orange smoothie, to get in your daily allowance of vitamin C. Oranges also have thiamin (B1 – helps your body turn carbs into glucose and helps produce energy), folate (Needed by the body to manufacture red blood cells), and potassium (Helps nerves and cells function).

Pineapples are an excellent source of manganese as well as vitamins C, B1 and B6. Pineapples are also good sources of copper and dietary fiber. Pineapples have anti-inflammatory properties and they help with digestion.

Mangos have tons of benefits! They not only taste good but they have Vitamin C, Vitamin A, B Vitamins, Probiotic fiber, and many others that help reduce cholesterol, maintain Alkali, boot your immune system, and give your skin health benefits.

Many who feel a cold or a case of the sniffles coming on like to increase their vitamin C with Orange Smoothies. This is the perfect time for a smoothie with orange, pineapple, and mango in it, and to get that vitamin C in a tasty way. It’s also kid friendly!

Recipe:

  • 16 oz. OJ
  • 8 oz. water
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1/2 cup frozen mango
  • 2 scoops Arbonne Vanilla Protein Powder

Infused Waters

Infused Waters

Sometimes I get on a kick and I infused water like crazy! My husband loves it. Thus begins my water infusing tips and tricks.

Prepping Tips:

  • Softer fruits like citrus and strawberries can be sliced thick, thin, halved, or quartered. Harder fruits like apples should be sliced very thinly because they take longer to release flavors.
  • Crush leafy herbs like mint, basil, and cilantro to release their oils.

Soak Time and Temp:

  • Infuse water at room temperature for no more than 2 hours. After that, put it in the fridge to prevent bacterial growth.
  • Cucumbers, citrus fruits, melons, and mint flavor water almost immediately. Apples, cinnamon, fresh ginger root, and rosemary need an overnight soak in the fridge.
  • Melons and sliced strawberries start looking waterlogged after a few hours; citrus, and whole berries look pretty good even after hours in the fridge.
  • After 4 hours, unpeeled citrus can make water taste bitter
  • If you don’t drink the water within 24 hours, strain out the solids and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
  • To keep sipping all day long, refill your infused water container when it’s half full. It will be weaker than your first drink, but still flavorful.
