In love with the darker palate for winter. Like some strong personalities, winter demands that we make space for it. During the winter we tend to wear more make up unlike the “fresh face” of summer. Bold, brave, and somewhat extreme in ok during the cooler months of the year.

It may take time to get used to fuchsia, ruby, dark plum, and crimson in blush and lipstick. If you begin with sheer colours your makeup will be invisible, or it will be noticeable as some warm, wishy-washy shade on your skin tone. Don’t go there.

The basic eyes shadow is a clean, crisp steel grey. A cool taupe (grey-brown) can work as a good alternative. Nobody should overdo the frost, especially after 40. Summer cool taupe is not quite the same because of its inherent softness.

Thanksgiving is a tough time of year for us. That must seem odd but when your child has allergies, Holidays are not always easy.

Baked goods, dinner rolls, seasonings and too many cooks in the kitchen, literally. To avoid all the craziness of Thanksgiving, we decided to host our very our Friendsgiving instead. All the food was cooked from scratch and completely allergy free! Also in a fun twist, I dislike Thanksgiving food in general so we decided that our menu would be unconventional. Here is what our menu looked like.

Menu:

  • Turkey Taquitos with Cranberry Sauce
  • Sweet Potato Casserole
  • Grilled Veggies
  • Non Traditional Stuffing
  • Apple Cobbler
  • Vegan Cheese Cake

Everything was absolutely amazing from the Menu, the decor, and the company! This will defiantly be a tradition for our family.

Mashed Potatoes:

  • 8 Gold Potatoes (Skinned and Cut in half)
  • 5 White Onion chives
  • ½ Tablespoon Garlic
  • 2 tblspoons Earth Balance Butter
  • Salt + Pepper to taste

Directions:

  • Bring Potatoes to a boil
  • Drain and add to standing mixer
  • In a standing mixer, mix ingredients and whisk to desired consistency

Turkey:

  • Season Turkey with a ‘Turkey Rub’ (Premade and Sprouts – Organic garlic, organic onion, sea salt, organic sage leaf, organic black pepper, organic thyme, organic rosemary, organic cane sugar, organic coriander, organic oregano, organic fennel seed, and organic bay leaf)
  • *Cook your turkey based on pounds
  • Shred Turkey when completed cooking and keep all turkey stock for Gravy

Gravy:

  • ½ Cup of Earth Balance Butter
  • Salt + Pepper to Taste
  • 4 Cups Turkey Stock
  • 4 springs of Rosemary

Directions:

  • Melt Earth Balance Butter
  • Bring Turkey Stock to a boil
  • Add Salt + Pepper
  • Reduce to low heat and add Rosemary
  • Gently simmer 5 minutes

Taquitos:

  • Warm corn Tortillas and add shredded turkey + mashed potatoes
  • Roll and secure with a tooth pick

  • Pour gravy over the top
  • Bake on 400 degrees for 25 minutes

Heat Canned Cranberry Sauce before serving

Taco Cups

Every Tuesday is Taco Tuesday. You think it would get boring but really, it doesn’t. We now crave it. It’s now become like second nature. To jazz it up a little we turn the tables on ways to make Taco Tuesday more interesting. This time we made Taco Cups. Super easy and tasty too.

Here is what you do:

  • Season you meat (salt + pepper + garlic + cumin)
  • Cook through completely on your stove top
  • Set your oven to 400
  • Heat your tortillas in a pan so they are loose and easy to mold
  • Spray your muffin tin with a nonstick coating
  • Mold your tortilla into the muffin cup
  • Add you meat and fixings
  • Top with cheese or dairy alternative
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until cheese is melted but not burned

Dusty Orange

This look made that quick transition from summer to fall feel oh so real. I love Dusty Orange and the way it makes me want to cozy up by the fire with some hot chocolate. Also, I don’t have a fire place so scratch that.

When I put on this outfit I felt awesome. It brought light to my face and made me feel sophisticated without making me feel old.
