The thing I have the hardest time with is breakfast. Not just because it’s just ridiculous to eat right when you wake up (in my opinion), breakfast takes too long, and of course, it feels impossible to make it completely allergy free.
Well the truth is, breakfast is actually important, some may even say, it’s the most important meal of the day.
Breakfast provides your body and brain with fuel after an overnight fast. That’s where the name breakfast comes from – breaking the fast. Without breakfast you are running on empty. Breakfast is also good for your waistline. Research shows that those who eat breakfast are less likely to be overweight and more likely to be within their ideal weight range. If you skip breakfast you are more likely to reach for a high sugar and fatty option for a mid-morning snack.
Speaking of skipping breakfast, did you know that more women skip breakfast then men? Here is why:
- Women who skip breakfast, 29% miss it because they are too busy getting ready
- 14% of female breakfast skippers say they don’t need to eat in the morning because they are trying to lose weight
- Women are more likely to prioritize their hair and choosing clothes for the day over eating.
People’s energy needs to vary depending on activity levels and life stage but typically men require more energy than women.
Growing children require a lot of energy – Ages 7-10 should consume approximately 1970 calories per day and girls 7-10 should consume 1740.
Men require 2500 calories and Women 2000 calories per day.
In light of this information, I am slowly understanding how important breakfast really is and thus creating many breakfast recipes for the future.
Here is a yogurt parfait that made the start of my day quite happy
Chia Seed Muffins
- 1 Cup bobs red mill muffins
- ½ cup of coconut milk
- 1 stick earth balance butter
- 2 tbsp. chia seeds
(Mix and bake muffins @ 350 for 12-14 minutes)
Layer In your Mason jar
- Greek Vanilla yogurt
- Chia seeds
- And crumbled muffins
